A thunderous boom rocked the coast near Half Moon Bay Weyr, sending debris flying over the stretch of beach between Blue Fire Hold and the local Eston Fishing Village. Looming in the sky overhead, a billowing cloud of black smoke and ash danced with flames as it blocked out Rukbat's pre-dawn glow. Alarms sounded, undulating wails echoing off of the cliffs and hillsides to warn residents of the disaster.
Dolphineers summoned to survey the site of the explosion reported that one of Blue Fire Hold's barges carrying natural gases for export had been ignited, creating a chain reaction that destroyed a second moored nearby. As soon as the fire had been put under control by the Sea Craft, Half Moon Bay Weyr's Search and Rescue wing swarmed over the distant Hold and surrounding seas to seek survivors. Few people have been found since the initial explosion, some drifting out at sea and brought in by the Dolphineers while others have been found inland by sweepriders and ground crews. The crews of both barges have been lost, but survivors - including Blue Fire Hold's heir, Alexryin - have been transported to the weyr for urgent care.
Though unfortunate, the timing of this event could only been a miracle, as the weyr's infirmary was already on standby for a disaster of another kind: Gold Celimoth took to the air and all able bodied bronze and brown dragons gave chase until her path of destruction was put to a bloodied halt by bronze Xermiltoth. In the resulting chaos, blue- and greenriders have been called on to lead the way to keep things in order!
Dark whispers slowly start to emerge on what could've caused such a tragedy for Blue Fire Hold. One thing is for certain - investigators from the Harper Hall are going to be very, very busy.
