Nuclear Holocaust has destroyed civilisation as we know it. Great swathes of wasteland cover the earth and sooty smoke pervades the atmosphere, blocking most of the sun's light and heat. But, 100 years later, as the Nuclear winter edges towards a hopeful spring, a city has sprung into existence by a great and mighty river; a city called Event Horizon.
Known simply as Horizon, to its denizens.
Horizon consists of the burnt-out, skeletal remains of metal skyscrapers and nature-dominated brick buildings. Factories were built to purify the water from the river and to churn out steam-powered vehicles, and clockwork machinery. Every citizen has to wear goggles, because of the dense smog caused by the steam and the sooty density of the air. Those who are able, fit theirs with night vision.
Gas and oil are in short supply, so at night the city is plunged into complete and utter darkness, save for the one-mile radius surrounding the Mayor's Office. Currency is anything useful; everyone trades what they have, for what they need. The market trades in valuable "Old World" items, such as candles, batteries, DVDs, books, paintings. Everything has to be scavenged from The Wastelands.
The river is tainted by radiation, which in turn has caused genetic mutations, known as Phreaks, to come into being. They haunt The Wastelands, outcast and exiled from this new society; some roam in packs and others live a lonesome existence.
The only clean water source is Horizon's filtration plant.
The Phreaks want the city and the Norms, well, they want to wipe the Phreaks from existence...
