Ok... I have to ask even the Admins here and ANYONE who still has ProBoards...
Is your site on ProBoards far worse than it was a few months ago? Has the change and update to ProBoards been a great problem or disaster for your site or not? Have you had to learn a new code and if so, was it difficult to learn?
I'm mighty curious about this because one particular RP community forum/board (which I shan't disclose who) had spread a great panic through many RP Forum Admins all last year up until January of this year. I saw a major scramble by Admins running over to JCink - which is the forum host this particular place "highly recommended".
I'm compiling some info to be helpful for other Role Players to NOT panic despite what others say. I think this whole panic with the ProBoards Upgrade was incredibly damaging and completely uncalled for.

I would agree that it was over-hyped and likely by those that don't like change. v5 has been fantastic in my opinion. It was trivial to learn, though I may have a bias since I know how to code a little bit in a few languages. But even learning the new bbc code took no time because there were buttons to click that would then show you what the code was and all it required was some memorization. Not to mention that there are endless support topics for doing whatever you want with a simple search of the internet. Want to utilize the built in advanced tables in regular v5 posts? Luckily for you there are about 100 support topics with simple written examples that will likely cover whatever you want... and if there isn't well the Support Forum has always been and will always be there with excellent coders.
Those who complained about the code changes were obviously those same people who don't do a lot of their own coding, so were just clinging to the desire to not learn. And may also be the same people who do not set up their advertisement properly for multiple sites and so either just don't allow other types of sites to advertise cause they don't want to deal with the coding differences, despite that it's really only a couple small differences, or just post despite their coding being broken upon posting.
As for the visual changes... I can't say I saw many v4's in all of my expansive advertising that was nicer than half the v5's I see now; and we're just getting started on v5. Not to mention it's way nicer to deal with since there's a live visual update instead of having to save and refresh a second page to see how it looks. Granted the live visual isn't always perfect and that is still required for some things but v5 is still fairly new. For those that say Jcink's and other providers have better layouts well, perhaps you should look around a bit more cause I'm seeing a lot of Proboards that look just like a bunch of Jcink's nowadays. v5 has just opened up so many possibilities and made templating & coding far easier than in v4. By going to Jcink you've just gone backwards as there are way more posting capabilities with a mix of bbc & css than anything I've seen in Jcink, Invisionfree, or Zetaboards. I do have to admit though that there are certain free templates posted on the free forum that are seeing a lot of use and so, while seemed unique the first couple times, not so much now... But welcome to the beauty of trivial skinning!
All in all, those that fled Proboards are missin' out! v5 didn't require much time to learn if you sat down and wanted to learn it; didn't even require special dedicated time. It could have been learned through normal usage. I see tons of people posting on the support board saying they hated v5 at first cause they didn't want to dedicate time and it was 'so' different, but now love it. I do respect though that it may not have been as easy for everyone else as it was for me, just cause I'm constantly learning new programs and whatnot for work to increase efficiency on some tasks; so I'm very used to change. I'd say v5 was a great one.

::: nods ::: I know a couple RPs that remained on ProBoards and they say about the same as you did, Seth. This was a curiosity of mine and perhaps that will serve for future reference NOT to listen to a particular community forum when they do not like an upgrade. They were stating the upgrade would ruin if not wipe out the coding, and one could not use the coding or something like the formats they were using in their RPs that they would have to completely change everything, etc. Again, a grand panic was caused and it caused a LOT of chaos on many RPs. Shame upon that community forum for such a thing! I am not all that keen with InvisionFree, and checkedout JCink... and found them to be confusing where as ProBoards was always so straightforward and userfriendly. Again, thank you, Seth. One of many reasons why THIS site of yours is THE BEST for Advertising and Services to RPs. Two thumbs up, and if I had two more thumbs I'd have them up, too! Keep up the fantastic work! ~Lady B
